Holy Rosary Annual Speech Tournament

Dear Students and Parents,

It’s time once again to begin preparing for the Annual Holy Rosary Speech Tournament. The dates for the tournament this year have been set for March 14 and 16. March 14 will be the preliminary rounds for all grades. March 16 is the finals for grades three through eight.

It is our goal to make the speech tournament an interesting and enjoyable learning experience for all of the students. We have assigned specific types of speeches for each grade so that all students will have the opportunity to prepare several different types of speeches by the time they graduate from eighth grade. This will give the students a chance to perform a variety of speeches and hopefully find a speaking style which best suits them. The students in kindergarten through eighth grade will be judged against students in their own class.

Since some of the speeches are new to the students, the teachers will be using language arts time to teach the students how to write and perform the various speeches. The teachers may ask the students to practice parts of their speeches during class time. However, the bulk of the preparation and practicing will be done at home.
